Editorial Reviews

Review

Bargello quilts were originally inspired by needlepoint designs, where vertical colour changes shift along in columns to create horizontal curves and waves. Creating an effective Bargello quilts involves a considerable amount of planning, and a fair amount of accuracy in piecing, but the effort is well rewarded as these designs make impressive quilts. Marge Edie's guide covers both the design and the construction aspects you need to consider to create your own unique Bargello, and, should you requite a little more directions, also gives instructions for eight projects. As with any pure geometric technique, there is a mathematical component here and, although they are very well written and accompanied by good illustrations, you do need a fairly mathematical mind to follow the instructions easily. This is certainly one of the most comprehensive guides to Bargello I've seen and should suit most readers wishing to find out more about this technique. --Popular Patchwork magazine
